Green and Sustainable Development Partnership
Indo-German Cooperation for shared solutions to global challenges

With the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (the GSDP), India and Germany are aligning their cooperation towards the achievement of our shared global climate and sustainability goals. The GSDP provides a new framework for Indo-German solutions to global challenges.

India and Germany have a long history of cooperation in addressing green and sustainable development, climate change, and environmental challenges. They are committed to achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and addressing climate change. Both countries recognise the importance of sustainable development and are taking effective steps to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement.

India has made significant progress by sourcing 40% of its power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, nine years ahead of the 2030 target. Germany for its part has pledged to achieve net zero by 2045 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. To affirm this joint ambition, India and Germany are committed to further deepen their cooperation in areas such as just energy transition, green mobility, climate change mitigation and adaptation, agroecology, forest landscape restoration, biodiversity, circular economy, and sustainable urban development.

With the GSDP, India and Germany are intensifying bilateral cooperation, involving public and private sectors, civil society organisations, and research institutions. Germany intends to strengthen its financial and technical cooperation with India, with a goal of at least 10 billion Euros in new commitments by 2030 (around 90% of which are loans). Both countries also aim to support the realisation of the SDGs and the achievement of the climate targets globally, through trilateral cooperation projects in third countries in Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region, and through various multilateral initiatives.
