India and Germany look back on a long-standing bilateral development partnership of more than 60 years. As partners in trade, science, education, and climate change, our two countries are dedicated to solving the most pressing issues of our time. India and German agree that sustainable development is crucial, especially for developing countries, to help more people access healthcare, clean environments, education, jobs, and a better quality of life. We also recognize that climate change affects everyone and harms communities by damaging ecosystems, livelihoods, and the economy, especially in local areas.
Because of the vast potential of Indo-German cooperation, our two countries are redoubling joint efforts. With the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (the GSDP), India and Germany are aligning their cooperation to the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It represents a new framework for shared Indo-German solutions to global challenges. With the partnership, India and Germany are expanding the engagements with multilateral actors, scientific communities, businesses, and civil society to achieve overarching climate and sustainability goals. And with the GSDP, India and Germany are redoubling our joint commitment to advancing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.
To realize the commitments under the GSDP, we are focussing on key areas such as the just energy transition, green mobility, sustainable urban development, agroecology, biodiversity, natural resource management, and circular economy. But we are also going beyond India’s borders. To support sustainable development globally, India and Germany are working with countries in Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific to scale up tested solutions. And we are also collaborating to make an impact across a variety of multilateral initiatives. The GSDP highlights the shared commitment of India and Germany to fostering a sustainable and resilient future for all.
